Welcome to the botanical garden The Kruidhof. A walk through the Kruidhof brings you to 17 theme gardens, each with their own unique collection of plants and particularities. There are in sum over 2000 different species. De gardens are varied by nature and contain recreational, educative as well as informational elements.

The history of the botanical garden The Kruidhof goes back to 1930 when an experimental garden for fruit and vegetables is founded. Later on the experimental garden focuses more on growing herbs. Since the fifties, uses the University of Groningen the herbal garden for research goals and investigate the healing powers of herbs. The university supported the garden with building the healing herbal garden and that garden has become a well known garden both in Holland and foreign countries. From the seventies the recreational aspect of the gardens become more important and the number of theme gardens is expanded to seventeen. The botanical garden The Kruithof is registered as a museum in 2000 and has been a member of the Dutch club for botanical gardens ever since. The current goals aim not only for tourism, education and recreation but also to support labor integration.
