Introduction, Ulfsunda Slott
The Castle was built during 1644 -1647 by Lennart Torstensson, one of the foremost Swedish generals during the 30-year war (1618-1648). The castle looked completely different back then. It had pointed copper roofs, built in German-Dutch Renaissance style and the castle façade was decorated with alfresco paintings. From the courtyard between the two wings a stair led down to a little harbour in Ulvsundaviken.
Details, Ulfsunda Slott
Lennart Torstensson was married to Beata de la Gardie, cousin of Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie, who was Queen Kristina’s best friend. An alliance shield hangs at the castle entrance: this is the alliance shield of Torstensson and de la Gardie.
A midsummer festivity is said to have been held in “Rikssalen” on the second floor, at which Queen Kristina was the guest of honour. The Queen was said to have stayed overnight in the room that we now call “Kristina Rummet”.
