Beginning in the mid 80s, rock venues across America welcomed two very distinct rock bands onto their respective stages-The Replacements-like electric angels and the post-hardcore Step Kings. It wouldn't seem that the brains behind these two very different major label bands could have much in commomn. But time would tell a much different story.
Details, Angels & Kings Chicago
By early 2001, both bands had traded life on stage for the chance to set the stage for a new generation of rock bands and artists. While not privy to each others’ doings, Jonathan Daniel (ex-Electric Angels) and Bob Mclynn (ex-Step Kings) spent nights scouting young artists, developing talent and devising nontraditional business strategies that could weather a shaky music industry. After years on parallel (and successful) paths, the tow met.
Fast-forward to 2005...and the birth of crush music management, a strategic partnership formed between Daniel and Mclynn that would push their unique approach to music and management to the forefront of the industry. A slew of multiplatinum-selling and Grammy Award-winning artists and bands followed including house hold names Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco, Butch Walker, and Gym Class Heroes.
The pair then set their site on the last missing piece of their professional puzzle – a bar / a clubhouse for their bands in the same vein as their beloved old east village haunts. With the support of pop icon Pete Wentz and the entire crush roster their clubhouse went public in 2007. Angels & Kings (referred to as AK47, by those in the know) has since become one of the most highly publicized, well-trafficked bars in NYC.
Today, Daniel and Mclynn continue to give people a shot in more ways than one.
