Details, Best Western Premier Cappello D'Oro
Step out the front door and you will find yourself in a lively shopping district frequented by locals. The Sentierone piazza, with its melange of architectural styles, gardens and cafés, is a lively example of modern Italian living. Art lovers will be stupefied by the amazing collection of paintings housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia Carrara, which isn't far from the hotel. Connoisseurs of classical music, opera and theatre will enjoy the performances held at the Teatro Donizetti, native of Bergamo.
Just a few steps away from the hotel is the funicular, which will carry you up to the architectural splendour of the Città Alta. At the heart of the old town are two adjoining squares, the Piazza Vecchia and the Piazza del Duomo. The mix of medieval and Renaissance architecture that characterizes the Piazzas inspired Stendhal to call the heart of old Bergamo "the most beautiful place on earth." Surrounded by 16th century ramparts and perched on a verdant hill, the Città Alta offers magnificent vistas overlooking the plains below.
