The Center was built in the late 1970´s aiming at hosting courses, congresses and activities in order to improve Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da USP. Its first activities started out in 1982, connected to Fundação Zerbini. On May 11th 1982 it hosted its first event: a solemn cocktail session in honor of the retiring of one of the greatest professionals in Brazilian and International medicine: Professor Euryclides de Jesus Zerbini.
Since its very beginning the Center was used to host health events, such as the “III Brazilian Cellular Biology Congress” and the “XV Brazilian Endocrinology Congress”, both carried out in 1982.
Between 1982 and 1985 the Center carried out several cultural events, such as movies, exhibitions and music courses. The Great Auditorium had a number of pieces of motion picture projecting equipment where many movie cycles took place.
