The presence of two departments under one roof gives Bonnefantenmuseum his own character. The ancient art department is located on the first floor and shows including highlights from the 16th and 17th century Flemish art from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. By combining these works from the National Treasury in the collection of the Bonnefantenmuseum tells the story of painting in the 16th and 17th centuries in the southern Netherlands. The collection is further distinguished by large ensembles and zaalvullende installations by younger artists.
