Tip 3: Mutrah Souq: a traditional Arab market with some good antique shops selling a mixture of Indian and Omani artefacts, textile, hardware and gold shops.
Tip 4: Sohar: a replica of a boat sailed by Abdullah bin Gasm in the mid 8th century of Guangzhou in china. It was built in the dhow yards of Sur from the bank over 75000 palm trees and four tonnes of rope, not a single mail was used in the construction.
Tip 5: Muscat Gate Museum: with the original gates used until the 1970s tot keep land bound marauders out. It is also a vantage point for the sultans palace, climb up the hill and have a great view over Mutrah and Muscat.
Tip 6: Bat al-Baranda: it traces the history and prehistory of Muscat through imaginative, interactive displays and exhibits.
Tip 7: Watchtower: a restored Portuguese Watchtower affords a lovely view out to sea. A popular place to catch the evening breeze and it is decorated with colourful fountains at night.
Tip 8: National Museum: displays of jewellery, costumes and dowry chests. Furthermore a mural and collection of boats celebrating Oman's seafaring heritage.
